Little atmosphere since the new owner, overpriced wines, bad food and unfriendly staff. Clearance station in the middle of the beer garden, shabby enclosed with barrier tape .. compared to before, no atmosphere and no wonder that next to the beer gardens are full.
Never again against very unfriendly and fell too expensive not to be missed
new concept ? not recommended, very unfriendly hospitality, prices too high for what is on offer. Currently the outside area is cordoned off with construction site barrier tape. If you don't yet know how to scare off guests - now I know. Oh, what happened to the "old" Carpe Diem ... What a shame
Unfortunately, since the change of ownership, the most unfriendly place in the city that I know.
2 stars because according to website and Google opened but then saw on site ... Too bad looks good from the outside
You could offer tap water
French flair, wine a bit expensive. But nice surroundings and friendliness. Bookcase nearby.
Ordered a water and then changed to a juice. Unfortunately I got served both and had to pay for both. I had to drink 0,75L in total. Regarding the payment the waitress also counted to much. My experience in this bar was not good and I won’t come back.
Super nice service and fully acceptable prices! Very nice French restaurant on Gutenbergplatz
Great food and nice service what more could you want.
Oh yeah, what happened to this once so beautiful pub ... Formerly a place to stop at Karlsruhe's most beautiful square, today unfortunately ruined by unfriendly owners. If at no time can you give the guest the feeling of being welcome, it is better to leave the experiment gastronomy. A visit to the Carpe Diem is unfortunately not advisable in this constellation
Visiting late in the evening, nice atmosphere, no longer brand new, just "French". Service was friendly, drinks very good, prices like everywhere.
Very nice, small French bistro. Looks more like a pub from the outside, but has a certain flair on the inside (old tiles on the walls, some pieces of furniture thrown together). The owners are French; therefore there are also typical French specialties (e.g. rillettes, camembert). "Real" food doesn't really exist, but you can order small things. In addition: there is a considerable number of anise schnapps that you cannot get anywhere else (Pontarlier, Henry Bardoin, etc.). We felt very comfortable and welcome there. As a result, our experience was very positive and we will be happy to go there again. Yes, the prices are higher, but that is also due to the selection there; I cannot sell a wine whose bottle already costs 12 EUR in the glass for 3 EUR. Everyone can see that. :-)
Pours tiny leftovers from opened wine bottles into the glass, pastis is poured with a dossier, a few peanuts cost one euro. ... that's not French. ,
The sushi is delicious
By chance we came across the locality at Gutenbergplatz, which looks rather inconspicuous from the outside. Despite or perhaps because of the kitschy interior, we found a cozy atmosphere. The French host couple Evelyne and Yves are personable and offer some typical delicacies from France. There are unusual aperitifs such as the Pontarlier from the hometown of the same name. We were served friendly and despite the slightly higher price we were rewarded with a nice evening. More evenings there are sure to follow.
Bar with a cheesy-looking separate seating area. The wines in the open taproom (red & white) were a bunch of tastelessness, despite a tight price level. After we saw the baguettes served at the next table, along with clearly audible criticism, we refrained from ordering our own. The service person responsible for us (possibly the boss) developed a barrack yard tone for us, which is usually only the case with dragoons. So at the moment I wouldn’t know why I / we should visit the restaurant again.
Very strange operator. Totally undecided and the - well wife - very distant. Offer OK, service adequate.
Expensive and unfriendly! I was there once in the winter and found both the premises, the offer of drinks and the friendly nature of the owner very pleasant. A few weeks ago I was in the outdoor area and unfortunately has to correct my experience. The Carpe Diem was well filled this Wednesday night. Since it was extreme that day, we asked for a glass of tap water in addition to our ordered drinks. Here we were pointed out in an extremely unfriendly way that this was not possible. The prices of drinks I think that's quite outrageous, because the Carpe Diem is unfortunately anything but cheap! In addition, the way we were approached was very harsh and inappropriate. Well, we quenched our thirst at the toilet sink. Since my girlfriend had her birthday that day, I brought her a cookie as a small attention. When she tried to try it out, the waitress immediately appeared and once again rebuked us for not eating her food at her location. So please! We did not unpack our vespers here, just bitten them in (one!) Little biscuit! Again, it was the way we were addressed that annoyed us the most at that moment. A nice "The biscuit looks delicious, but I would like to ask you to eat it outside our restaurant" would have been perfectly okay and acceptable. But friendliness is unfortunately unknown to the waiters at Carpe Diem. After all, we were able to compensate for the hefty prices that evening by saving tips. This was definitely the last stay in this location. Pity!
Unfortunately not recommended, we were rarely so rude and slow served .Gesalzene prices .. in the aftermath we were clear why the beer gardens next door were both full, but in the carpe just 2 tables occupied ...
This bar / restaurant is beautifully situated on the Gutenberg near the Krautkopfbrunnen. The outdoor area is pleasant. We were courteous and very friendly. The drinks were fresh and tasty. We felt well and like to come back.
Great atmosphere at night
Lovely little bar, always nice for a cosy evening with friends.
Good service, and is very pleasant to sit outside. I tried the Nachos, not so good and overpriced, but I wanted to try the Mozarella sandwich, looked better. I payed for 2 beers and the Nachos 16 euros, definitely not a cheap place.
Fantastic cheese & wine!
